(wohoo slaving through OS last quarter finally pays off :))
a paging file is where your os put pages that it "pages out" from RAM, ie copies to your disk (or whatever) to free up RAM for other programs. When it needs pages back, it just copies it back from dirsk

Don't forget that it is quicker for your computer to access the RAM than the HD. So you would prefer to use RAM first.
