to be realistic. 2000 is probably still the best as far as support. But it all comes down to which one you feel is right for you. I have both xp and win2k dual boot. i find myself using 2000 more then xp sometimes. It depends if you want latest and greatest then go for xp of coures. But if you want something probably stable supporting drivers that you got then 2000 might be your option. another thing to make your decision make sure the os you pick that the stuff you have in your computer has full drivers for it.

What do you want to do?
I use 98 for games only and boot to 2000 for everything else.
For stability, speed, and compatibility, I take 2000 hands down.

If you are looking for stability, high performance, speed, good drivers for devices W2k is the better option. Maybe XP will be better later but now W2k is more strong. If you want OS for games and other media applications maybe you need XP or 98.
