I recently developed a weird problem when startng my computer. It seems that once the computer has booted up, the fist time I try to click something with the mouse, it goes crazy. It will attempt to open hundreds of whatever I clicked, and the pointer just flashes repeatedly. If I close all the windows that have opened, the computer will run fine without any further problems. What's odd is that even when I go straight into the BIOS, I will see the cursor pulsing, just like the mouse. This leads me to believe it may not be a software issue.

Some things I have already tried to resolve this issue:
• Checked the disk for errors
• Replaced the mouse with a different one
• Tried using the mouse in PS2 port instead of USB port
• Updated my video card drivers
• Updated my video card BIOS
• Updated my computer BIOS

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this or how I could fix it? Thanks a ton in advance.

- Eric

How long does this happen once you have booted your PC? How old is your PC? If its a really old PC then it might have a hard time working with new hardware.

Have you run a virus check ? It's the opening of dozens of the same program you click on that sounds like a virus to me.

The problem will happen with the first thing I click after the computer starts up. It doesn't matter if I leave it for an hour after I turn it on, it will still open the repeated windows as soon as I click something. This problem is not crippling, as I can use the computer after closing the 100+ windows, but it is obviously very annoying. The PC is a year and a half old, 750MHz AMD processor. I hadn't upgraded any hardware within at least 3 months of this problem starting.

Yes, I have run a full virus scan -- nothing. And, after that, I tried fully reinstalling W2K. Again, Nothing. This type of thing does seem similar to the malicious interent pop-up scripts, but the fact that I notice these affects even in BIOS lead to me to believe it has nothing to do with the software of any files on my OS.

Have you tried resetting your bios by replacing the jumper or removing the cmos battery. Not too sure if the will help but its something that you can try.

Eric is this a cordless mouse and keyboard that you have? Is it logitech? if so uninstall all the drivers for the mouse and keyboard and make sure it is unintalled also from the registry. Run regedit(backup registry if not sure) then reboot, and install new drivers. Good luck
