Weird DNS error page...

Comment:

I'm using Windows 2000 Professional, and IE 5.5, and I tried downloading a key for CuteMAP, which put something on my desktop I shouldn't have clicked on in the first place. Anyway, the thing put a bunch of stuff on my computer, and it too me almost a half hour to fix. However, when I go to a page that doesn't exist, I get the default windows DNS error page, and then it immediately goes to another page that I have to be connected to the internet to to see. I've tried searching my registry for that URL and I can't seem to find it anywhere. How do I correct this problem? (The webpage it redirects me to is http://www.lop.com/dnserror.cgi?s=http://stuff.com/, where "http://stuff.com" is the said page that doesn't exist.)

I have the same problem. Those #@%&£$ at lop.com should be lined up and shot.

I have repaired everything they managed to change except for the DNSError page.

Does anyone know where to fix this?

Alright I have found the solution.

There is a rogue dll on your system left by the ba$tards at lop.com. It is called plg_ie0.dll and I found it on C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Application Data\. You will need to log on as a different user to delete this file as the file will be in use. I logged on as Administrator and deleted it and now I am not being sent to lop for every page error.

I have found an alternative solution.

If you got to www.lop.com and follow the Customer Services link, then in the FAQ is an uninstall program you can download.

Thanks for your help, Sean. I had to create a new identity to delete the .dll file, but it worked. Then I just deleted the new identity and everything was good. I had actually come across that file last night but didn't delete it because I didn't know if it had always been there or not.

Thanks again!

HELP HELP HELP

I am pretty frustrated and really do not want to have anything to do with lop.com and wherefore, will avoid going there for any purpose including downloading an uninstall from those ba$tards.

I could not get rid of that file even if I sign in as another user. It keeps telling me that the file is in use!!!

Any assistance any one can provide me will be very very appreciated.

Thanks.

I could not delete plg_ie0.dll so I renamed it to plg_ie0.dll.bak. That seemed to work for me.

Yes i too agree that they need to be shot. This is what they say on
http://lop.com/help.html#startpage1 :

"Any and all changes made to your system are clearly stated in the terms and conditions and are fully uninstallable via the 'Help' then 'uninstall' option on any of our software applications."

I don't remember reading and agreeing to those terms, but this is how you uninstall their 'crap'. Download
http://lop.com/uninstall.exe
from lop's website and run it. It seems to have worked fine but it sure made my computer act goofy while it was installed. Anyone want to take legal action? ;)

~~Good Luck!~~

right just sorted this problem out myself a few minutes ago very very annoying... first of all you dont need to delete the Swish registry entries... thats nothing to do with lop itself.

so to uninstall it (windows 98):
search through your registery for lopsearch.. should be in LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Run anyway.. delete the offending key.
next up is deleting the actual files, there are 3 of them, all sitting in C:\windows\application data
so boot into dos and delete the 3 (plg_ie0.dll, lopsearch.exe, bah cant remember hte name of the last one)

anyway that will sort everything out... (need to change your homepage in IE as well)

and for gods sake get a firewall :)
(thats how i knew i had accidently installed it.. again from cracks.am!)

registry validation software is damn handy as well (i was using nortons registry tracker, absolutely essential program)

hope this post helps.

Well looks like most of us fell in the trap for getting the crack...eh
I got the damn thing while downloading the crack for OctiMax DSP for winamp. messed up my desktop with its irritating flash file. the cause was the object embedded in the desktop.html file in c:\windows\web\wallpaper and before I knew it there was this plg_ie0.dll which I really did'nt want to delete. but now that since mosta u have done it safely I guess its OK.
By the way no chances of legal actions. it was clearly stated they'd gonna make changes on the system.
BUT LOP SUCKS BIG TIME!!! LOP BE DAMNED TO THE DARKEST PLACES OF HELL!!! DIE!
and oh the DSP....OctiMax...it is'nt better either.

Exactly the same problem for me.

As you say I'll try to delete this ugly dll.
I also have added
127.0.0.1 localhost www.lop.com lop.com
in my hosts file. This will prevent to connect to lop.com anymore.

And LOP.COM will be my first priority target to hack and destroy this site.
For the moment I am starting some denial of service attacks.

DEATH TO LOP COM!!

I think that with legal actions we couldn't do anything... the solution is: DESTROY THE SITE.

Get DoS programs and so on and attack: LOP.COM now!!!
We could do a planned attack.

I got the same problem, although I admit i was downloading a crack and stupidly ok'd the C2 media dialogue box. Anyway, the uninstall program didn't work for me, even tried re-installing over IE, the renaming the dll and deleting registry key did work, and im SOOOOo HAPPY!!!!!!, yes the lop cretins need to be shot, i cannot convey how annoying this experience was.

Btw, anyone have the address to where the lop server is located? I'm going to make sure Osama Bin Laden thinks it's an American Christian building in hopes that it'll be his next target.

Thanks a lot Sean for your helpful post... I got this file from a crack downloaded @cracks.am

I don't know if www.lop.com is directly responsible for this, but it still sucks...

Thanks again !
