I work with the LAN dept. at a company and we use Mcafee which implements a file called webscan.exe. Our employees are getting an error message saying webscanx.exe - Application Error. 'The instruction at "0x00000000" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".' Any ideas on why this would be?

I typed your error into Google and received tons of hits. You may want to try that.

I am getting the same error on a Win2000 PC. It started after I upgraded my Visual Studio from ver 6.0 to .Net. I think that it may have something to do with the C++ library called by webscanx.exe, since I am not getting the error on another PC that does not have the .Net library installed. However I have seen nothing so far on this and Mcafee has stopped supporting this product.

According to McAfee, Webscanx.exe was never intented for Win XP and is no longer needed. See

McAfee recommends upgrading to a newer version or disabling this app since it was made redundent by the current System Scan.
