Hi,
I just installed a web server on windows 2000. When I am outside the office, I can reach our company home page by using the domain name or the IP address. When I am inside the office. I can only access the domain by using the private IP address of the web server. An outside company is holding our DNS. Is there a way in windows 2000 DNS to map the domain name to the IP address with out setting up a host file (which does work). Users would only need to type "companyname" instead of "www.companyname.com". The company wants the users to type "www.companyname.com". I find the host file easier but there is politics. If this could work, how would it be done?Mitch

can you access the webserver by tying in http://servername instead of typing in the domain name. this might not be what you want but just a thought.

have you Contacted the Company that is Routing requests to your Web Site and Given them the IP address to your server? This would Be your IP address that was given to you by your ISP, Not your Servers Local LAN IP.
So, if Register.com is your redirector, then they Need to have your WAN IP address and Be pointing WWW requests to that address. Also, you need to make sure that the Server is accessable from the internet.
You must also have your Web Server set up correctly and Pointing to the correct Folder on your server that holds your Web Pages and your Home page Specified as either default or index followed by .htm or .html unless you have set up your web server differently.
If you are using a router, you need to set it up to point WWW requests from the internet on port 80 (The Default port for HTTP) to your servers IP.
I hope this helps,
