A few months back I dual booted my windows98se systme with windows2000. Very soon after installing windows 2000 started given message that svchost.exe had generated errors.Immediately after that I was unable to open links and unable to download and install the service packs. So I uninstalled win2k. Now I plan to install it again as a dual boot with windows98SE. I have win2k cd with service packs 1 and 2. I have also downloaded service pack 4. I want to ask if there are any precautions to the planned installation. Do I need to install sp1 and sp2 or should I install only sp4. What steps should I take immediately after installation to make it successful and secure. I am asking because I have read somewhere that this svchost problem recurs even when you uninstall and reinstall win2k.

the svchost error usually relates to getting infected with a worm. This is where having a router and having it configured to block the ports these worms use is a great advantage.
As long as you are install W2K to a seperate partition then that of 98 you will be just fine.

Thanks for the reply. I have an empty 6 gb partition on the disc. I will install w2k on that partition. I still need some help on the service packs. Do I need to install all the service packs from 1 to 4 one by one or just installing the service pack 4 is enough ? thanks again.
