Hi, I really like windows 2000sp4, but I need to tweak a few things. Need help.
Most annoying problem- explorer keeps auto-arranging the icons in C: drive. Look at this picture I found on google: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...
Now, that doesn't even look like Win2k, but anyway. As you see the folders are lined up nice and neat. I don't want windows to do this for me. My C: drive has TONS of files and folders, and I organize them a certain way and windows always "tidies them up" and I can't figure out how to turn that off.
2nd problem. Somewhat related to the problem above. Whenever I save a file to C: drive, often instead of putting the file down below the others, windows puts it off to the right so alot of times I don't see the file until I move the horizontal slider. I would rather make windows always put the file below, then I have to use the vertical slider but that's ok. How do I do this?
3rd problem- Is there a program to manipulate(turn off) how programs "steal focus". I mean, it's a totally useless feature, and I'd like to turn that off altogether if possible. Stealing focus sucks.
thanks guys

Is auto arrange checked under view, arrange icons by..?

See if the prevents stealing focus. It won't work in Vista

sorry, i tried that before making the thread. there is no check next to auto arrange. under xp, there is supposedly some config file i can change to read only, and this will hack it so it stays put. but i don't know what file.
thanks for the registry hack, that seems to work.
