W2k won't boot
Name: Christopher Date: September 17, 2002 at 08:28:36 Pacific OS: w2k sp2 CPU/Ram: athlon 200 / 192mb edo
Comment:
I installed a pair of 64mb edo ram chips to bring total to 192. Now machine won't boot. screen remains blank. removing ram makes no difference. boot cycle starts, hard drives spin up, keyboard check takes place, but nothing beyond that. Thanks for your help.

1)Make sure the original memory is back in the same slots and in the same order as before. 2)Try re-seating them. 3)listen to the beep codes and refer to your bios manufacturer's documentation. beep codes will give a series of short and long beeps, translating to a particular description of a particular problem. 4)Did you use ESD (anti-static) protection before touching the motherboard or RAM?

I would say remove the new RAM chips and see if it works. If the system runs properly...that's fairly indicative of a bad RAM chip (or two). If this works, you can test each stick of RAM by itself to see which is the bad one. If you just bought them, then you can also go back to the place of purchase, explain that at least one is bad and ask to have them exchanged for 2 new chips.

Try also removing and reinstalling your video card (PCI or APG). This once worked for me in the past.
