I have this network with Windows 2000 server and a few windows 98 machines. I have this computer with windows XP Professional that I added to the network. I created the user with a password and gave him access to the network drive in the server(W2k server), then I went to the workstation(windows XP computer). I am able to login in the network and see the information in the network, however, when I tried to open a program it comes up the login screen to the network, asking for a username and password. I tried the same username and password that used to login in the network the first time, and I get an error message indicanting the user is already logon in the network. I can use another username and password to login in this screen, but on the end who is logon in the network?; the first user or the second? What is going on? Am I missing something?
I used the same steps that I used to have the windows 98 computers in the network. I was wondering, do I need to do something in the Server for windows XP workstations?
Please help.

I'm probably not the best person to be replying to this, but i know something of what you are talking about.

Q1. Is the client (computer) registered in Active directory? Was the computer added to the domain by a user who is allowed to do so, i.e. you

Q2. Does the user have a valid username & password in active directory? So as to access the network properly.

Q3. Under the file sharing/folder security settings, has the user been assigned access?

If the file sharing permissions & folder security permissions differ, whatever is the more restrictive of the combined settings, is what is finally applied to the user accessing resources
for example
File sharing ->Everyone has full control
Folder Security ->Everyone is denied access
Effective setting for all users is acesss denied.
Hope this helps

Hi, thanks for the information. I think I didn't setup the the sharing/security folder, ounce i setup it up then it worked fine.
I also, have this "problem" I guess. I have to print from this computer to a printer that is connected to another computer, I tried to connect to the printer and then load drivers, similar like in windows98 environment, but I get the following message when I tried to connect to the printer.
"you do no have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected
printer"
I made the user administrator in the computer and at some point also at the server level without any success. when I gave the path to the printer I got another error message. Any suggestions?
Thanks again for your help.
