Folks,

I've just installed a Lite-On CDRW/DVD DH-52C2P

Win2000 is updated with all SPs and Critical updates.

The W2K sees the drive as Read Only. BUT...the same drive on a WinXP box shows as CDRW (correctly...without loading any special/specific drivers)

I went into the Administrative Tools area and tried to change the Media...BUT no CDRW item is listed in the right column.

Does anyone know how to get 2K to see this drive correctly (...is listed as W2K compatible)... is there some sort of update that allows W2K to see CDRW drives (it seems to be a standard)?

Any help apprecited.

THANKS

Have you installed any burning software ??

XP has burning software built in therefore it will recognise a CDRW drive. W2K does not need to recognise the drive as a CDRW except in Device Manager.

Install burning software, all will identify the drive as a CDRW, and allay your fears.....

Thanks for the info folks...

I found some free burning software which was W2K compatible....and it seems to work fine....which is a bit of relief since the CDRWs have already been purchased (returns...even with a good supplier...are such hassle).

Anyways...for anyone else referencing this...what those guys said :)

AND....if needing any free W2K burning software...check out Burn4Free at http://www.download.com/Burn4Free-C...

NOTE: After installing...go to add/remove and remove the browser tool bar it will install. Other than that...it is a nice little lite FREE burner package....And you can simplify it further by customizing the options to only show the Burn Data button.

Thanks all.
