i clean installed w2k with no problems. the next day, after loading a few apps, i decided to do a clean re-install. this time the installation hangs/locks solid during the windows portion where it 'checking for hardware such as keyboard, mouse,..'.

press reset button, system goes thru check process and hangs at exactly the same place.

i used disk manufacture zeroing program, tried clean install, hangs at exactly the same place (about 40% the way thru the horizontal progress bar).

i have removed all cards except video adapter, same problem.

i have changed video adapter, still hangs at the same place.

any ideas on cause/solution?

When you install do you remove the partitions and create new ones? do a format then install?

i did on 1st install.

i did not on 2nd thru 8th.

on 9th attempt i did after 'zeroing' drive. i used win98 boot disk and fdisk and format with rebooting inbetween and then the install. i use only one parttion on 6 gb hd. no dual booting.. only w2k.

Try disabling ACPI in the BIOS.

acpi was disabled in bios, and during loading of w2k, f5 was selected and 'standard pc' chosen, to over-ride any attempts to use acpi.

the bugaboo is, why did it install without problems once, and not a second time? no bios changes were made between the successful first installation, and numerous subsequent failures to re-install.
