Comment: I have a W2K (SP2) laptop dialing into a W2K (SP2) RAS server on an NT 4.0 domain (no W2K DCs). When I force a password change, either first logon or after x days, I get the following problem: User dials up to RAS server and is prompted to change their password. The correct old password is entered along with a new password that meets the domain's password rules. The following error message then appears: Error 709: There was an error changing the password on the domain. The password might have been too short or might have matched a previously used password. I can change passwords without any problems from within windows if the password hasn't expired and I've made sure that the "Users must logon in order to change password" box is unchecked in User Manager. I have searched Technet without success, has anyone else seen this problem?

Reply: (edit)Hi Tim, Keep poking around Microsoft's site. I wish I had a better recollection but I seem to remember reading something about W2K RAS and NT4 Domain and password length. Something about passwords needing to be 8 characters or no more than 8 characters. I'm not positive but I believe there's something out there on this issue. Best of luck and I'll repost if I can think of something more specific to point you to. -MW
