I have discovered that there is a known issue with Norton Internet Security and Windows 2000 pro. Unfortunatly it was too late for me. I installed the darned thing last night and now have problems with my computer not being able to boot. (it does boot in safe mode) The "recommended" resolution to this problem is to uninstall the NIS in safe mode. Well guess what... tried that... doesn't work.

Does anyone have any ideas or have a manual removal solution?

Hmmm, just today I installed it on my old game box for s---s and giggles, and it works!

I concur NIS isn't the greatest and you could find better. But you need to get your computer booted properly in order to remove the software.

My guess is you had something else installed that has fatal problems with you installing NIS.

What is the boot problem? NIS may not show up properly in safe mode to uninstall properly...you should however be able to stop it from running and hopefully eliminating the stops. Then you can remove NIS.

It's probably just a matter of stopping a service from starting...

Did you complete the install? I had an issue like this, but the reason was b/c Norton froze during install, it was never finished. When I booted back up with the Norton CD in it allowed me to log on and then automatically picked up where it had previously froze. Good Luck. Hope this helps.

Hmm...

So did you boot from the norton disk or did you boot from windows? I have been having no luck at all with the uninstall.

Thanks for the help.

Does it boot in safe mode?

If yes, then disable any norton/symantec services. Is there anything in the startup folder, or the Run registry keys relating to this tool? If so disable them.

You have a Norton Commander ERD? You can use that. You have a Win2000 installation disk? You can boot from that and run repair.

Perhaps it might be faster and easier to just start over and reinstall Win2000, and skip NIS.

Yes it does boot in safe mode. And when I try to uninstall norton I Get an error messasge saying that windows installer is not accessable. or won't work in safemode. "weird"

I'll try to disable things in the start up folder and see if that helps. in the mean time any other ideas??

I really do not want to reinstall everything... Note to self... ALWAYS BACK UP FIRST!!! :-)
