Hi! I would just like to have some answers regarding the problem that I'm having with my pc since I upgraded to W2k from Win98.
First, during boot-up, i got this message that my Primary slave is ATAPI incompatible. My primary slave s my CDROM, a creative 48x cd rom. Second is, My sound card, a creative sound blaster pci 64 seems not working. Lastly, I tried to reinstall my modem, a Motorola sm56 pci, but wasn't detected. That's all for now...
Thanks in advance to all those who will reply...

Raymond

it IS incompatable...
Go in BIOS (hit del while booting)
Your primary should be the hard drive(s).
Primary master/primary slave.
SECONDARY should be cd, cdrw ,zip etc..in no particular order
Boot sequence is hard drive 1 (and then 2 if you have 2) then the cd or cd's then floppy.
You apparently have the cables switched...
Pull them all out and make sure the primary on the Motherboard goes to hard drive(s) only

forgot to tell you...in win 2000 install your drivers (programs) first..then the hardware..
For instance.. uninstall any software for the sound card and physically remove it.. boot up, install the software shut down...put the card in and re-boot and it will find it.
Sometimes it gets a little screwy.. I fought a DSL modem this morning and had to point the installer to c:unzipped to get a driver for it... Winblowzzzzzz

no you don't have to.

primary can be harddisk or cdroms.

They are EIDE interface and what drives go where aren't a problem.

Some computers with scsi harddisk got cdrom as their primary master.

you have to go to the internet and downloap a new comparable driver with win2k for your cdrom. Also, go to the bios a select hard drive at first, the floppy second and cdrom final. it will make you boot process more facter.
Good Luck.
