W2k not receiving correct DHCP info from NT4 server

I (and several collegues) are testing W2k for our company, and we have this problem. Our DHCP server is an NT 4 SP5 server. Running W2k Pro. as a client, we select to use DHCP, but do not receive the proper subnet mask and default gateway address. I have checked the settings on the server and everything is OK. All our 95 clients get the correct information. Any assistance would be appreciated, I can't find anything relating to this issue anywhere.

I was reading in my Windows 2000 training kit something about Windows 2000 can act as its own DHCP server if it cannot find one. Is the client getting an IP address. What gateway are you getting???

The client is getting the IP address, but the subnet mask given is incorrect (255.255.0.0), and the gateway is not given at all.

I've seen this problem, but I'm sorry to say I don't have an answer. We have a few new laptops which are using W2K using DHCP, and the gateway is always set to the same IP as the local host, and my subnet is always set to 255.255.255.255. No problems with laptops running Win9x.
