i hv few problems on my desktop...
1) my w2k hangs when i starts windows, it started well, showed the w2k logos and starting message. But HANGS after the logo appears. result is i hv a blue screen ( which is the blue screen for my w2k desktop)2) To check if my hdd is fine, i run fdisk fr A:>
it is able to detect my hdd and shows the partition as NTFS correctly.3) I tried reinstalling w2k. It gave message " An internal setup error has occured. Could not find a place for swap file. Setup cannot continue"
How could i get my windows to start correctly?I wanted to reformat my hdd, but gets message that ms dos is not the correct version. I downloaded fr bootdisk.com bootdisk for DOS 6.22 5 1/4 1.2 meg disk . How do i use those boot disk? do i type format c: at A: prompt?

Hmm.. Can't say that I have had that problem, before. Do you have the windoze 2000 CD? If you can boot directly from the cd it should give you a list of options. One of which is to install windoze 2000. From there it will let you select the partition on your Hard Drive to install to. At that time you can format part or all of it to either FAT32, or NTFS, and then choose which partition to install windoze 2000 on. Hopefully this helps...

You can't use this: DOS 6.22 5, to format a drive partitioned and formatted in NTFS.
You need to go back to bootdisk.com and get the proper Win2K startup disks.

Boot with the Windows 2000 CD and run setup.
As far as the computer hanging on boot, try booting into safe mode and look at your event log. See what services aren't starting. You can also enable boot logging from the startup menu to see if there's a driver causing a problem. The only time I had the problem with the computer not booting up right was when SYMTDI.SYS, a symantec file, wasn't working. Because the SYMTDI service makes itself a dependency of DHCP, DHCP and a bunch of other services couldn't start. The system hung on startup. I traced the root of the problem to a stick of RAM that was having problems with my system.

Thanks for advice. I managed to start my computer correctly.
I booted with startup disk ( in set of 4 disks). Then reinstall my w2k. Luckily, my data is intact.
Thanks all!
