W2K hangs on Filelist Dialog access

When i access the filelist dialog (ex: File Open, File Save, My computer, etc) the dialog will hang as if it's scanning through all my mapped drives. It finally un-hangs after 10-15 seconds. This is very annoying since it happens EVERY time i try to see a list of my drives.
My machine is a P3 650, 256Mb laptop. seems to suffice in every other application other than W2K hanging. Very, Very frustrating.
I've tried searching the forum, but couldnt find anything.
