Hello there

I am getting increasingly frustrated with my Asus 7100 GeForce2 graphics

card. my system is :

Athlon 800 thunderbird
256 meg 133 ram
Asus A7V motherboard
Asus 7100 GeForce2 MX Card
Windows 2000
ADSL connection to the web.

What else do you need to know ?

I bought the card and motherboard both from ASUS as I thought that this would be a stable platform for W2K. The card also stated in the specification that it was Windows 2000 compliant BUT the system just intermittently hangs. So far this has caused me to have to re-build Windows completely once.

I feel that I have done everything, spent hours researching the problem, I have the latest A7V motherboard drivers, Via 4-in-1 4.25 I have the latest bios 1004, I have downloaded and installed the pre W2K service pack 2 fix for an AGP "problem" I have disabled all 3D operations ! updated registry
settings based on information in the AMD FAQ and more. But it just keeps happening. I do not need to be operating the machine it can happen at any time when it is on.

Please Please help what can I do ?

Thanks

Tim.

I have been having similar freezing problems with my Althlon Thunderbird.
I have a good system for home use running 20gig of memory, 750Mhz and 128K of RAM. The problem occurs when I have moving graphics from games and programs. It is driving me mad as I thought I would be safe with Windows 98 version 2, rather than going streight for windows 2000 which I plan to install shortly. I fear I will have worse problems if I install w2k. Does anybody have an answer for this one and Tims problem ?

Kind Regards

Adam

Guys,
I'm another victim
I have a Duron 700 processor on a Soyo K7VTA (VIA KT133 chipset) with 128 Mbit PC133 RAM, an Asus V6800 GeForce DDR video card and Sony CR-RW 145E. All recently purchased.
I'm having random lockup problems running MS Flight simulator 2000 and other games I've tested (Need For Speed, Drakan).
I've tried Win 98, ME and 2K with various combinations of Via 4in1 driver
pack and Nvidia/ Asus drivers. Also tried different Bios settings.
Any suggestions re Bios, Driver, OS combination or Internet Site forum
would be very much appreciated.

Regards Andy Burgess.

I have seen this quite a few times: ASUS is very picky with its RAM. and the exact symptom was the constant freezing of the system. Could be something else though. But I would definitely check your RAM manufacturer, and contacted ASUS.

Hey... It's getting me to!
A7V, Radeon (all in wonder), Win2K SP1. Latest 4-in-1's I could find, Reg hack, hotfix, etc... Every time I run the Radeon demo it dies. (Haven't tried much else. What's the point?) I'm going to go postal if I can't get it working.

Hi all,

Ditto,

My config:

250 Watt case
Athlon 1.2Ghz Thunderbird
ASUS A7V motherboard
256Mb pc-133 RAM (2*128bars)
First generation GeForce (prophet SE)
Dual Hard disks
Windows 2000

I've gone and installed all the newest drivers;
VIA 4 in 1 version 4.25a
Video drivers from nvidia (6.31)
1005x BIOS
That windows patch thats meant to fix it.
Win2000 service pack 1.
Some AMD registry update.

My problem is mainly that the machine automatically locks as soon as I run anything that is even vaguely graphically demanding, when I try to run Q3A, it locks at the Id software logo, and the seirra logo for halflife, I can bypass that, but it will lock anyway when I get into the console that loads when you start up a game. Similarly in NHL2000 it locks after the intro sequence, which has ugly graphics. Other wise, Windows is relatively stable. However, whenever, i try to play MP3s, my screen will freeze after a while. (I play them using winamp)

Ive tried just about everything else you guys have said, changing the RAM, changing the video card, installing win98 (about 5 times in total). I also installed the 1005x bios, but it didn't allow me to change the setting for system performance from optimal to normal to disable the AGP 4x, so I've put back the 1004c version. Now I know what the root of the problem is (I think) When I look under system device manager, it tells me that theres a little problem with the "CPU to AGP controller" it also sepecifically states that it recognises it as a VIA device. I tried using the drivers from the 4in1 to remedy this, but it doesnt work, it gives me an error message when i try to install.
I've read else where on the web that there have been some people that have been able to fix this, I've done what they said, but it doesnt help.

Well, thats about it, if anyone wants the addresses for those drivers, then I suppose i could dig them up for you, just ask.
I just want to get the dang machine to work, its a pain to have such a powerful processor thats crippled by the AGP thing.

Regards, Bob

Same Problem here.

Athlon 1Gh processor
Asus A7V Motherboard
Asus AGP-V7700 GeForce 2 GTS
SoundBlaster Live
512MB memory
Windows 2000

I can't say how many times I have thought I fixed the problem. Tried the following fixes:
Registry hack
AGP miniport Driver
Service pack 1
Flashed Motherboard bios
New Motherboard drivers
New Video card drivers

Anyone came up with a solution yet?
I think the next thing I will try is to blow out the operating system and start over fresh with a base configuration of video card, motherboard and drives, installing only the generic VGA video driver during setup, then adding things one by one, might try moving things to different PCI slots.
