I have a computer I have been using for a few months without any trouble. Last Saturday used it-cut it off rebooted later and received the following:

stop 0x0000000A (0x4220C4B0,0x00000002,0x00000001,0x804490F2)

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Address 804490F2 base at 80400000 Data Stamp 3ee6c002 NTOSKRNL.exe

Since that time, it will not load windows past this screen.

MicroSoft has been no help other than article I.D. 867778 which lists a hotfix if you call and "pay the man".

I have tried just about everthing and am concerned about either a BIOS or BOOT sector virus.

Any Ideas????

Thanks !!!

John

Have you tried booting to Last Known Good Configuration/Safe Mode?

If not, boot to the Installation CD and run the Recovery console, then run chkdsk

Jennifer,

Tried CHKDSK and came up clean...ran FIXBOOT and now it will run to the first windows screen and then reboots. Microsoft did send a hotfix with NO instructions, password protected and only good for 7 days. They stated "This fix is not publicly available through the Microsoft website as it has not gone through full Microsoft regression testing". This is really spooky stuff ! Guess I'll give it a try !

Long shot... RAM may be playing up...

If possible reduce RAM to a min of 128 or 256Meg - presuming the RAM config allow this - and try each stick in turn...

One or other stick may allow everything to work OK, one or other may not??? Also perhaps borrow a known good stick (min 128Meg) and see if that allows the system to boot up OK?

I get that error with about 20% of the computers I am administering... If the Printer (usually HP) is connected via USB port, you won't get passed the blue screen...

In case you DO have an HP printer (or scanner), disconnect the USB cable, run windows, and in windows connect the cable back in....

in case you don't have a printer/scanner, try taking out your modem/LAN/any other PCI card and try.... if all else fails, you can always re-install windows onto its old folder to fix any corrupted files...

good luck

Trvlr,
I have since ordered a new harddrive and a new stick of memory. I will try and find which is causing the problem.
Amir,
I do have a scanner connected USB, but it is a Sharp. I did try disconnecting it...same problem.

I will find the problem sooner or later. I will post the results.

Thanks to everyone!
