I installed w2000 on a Toshiba laptop with 64MB of RAM and now everything is low with a lot of disk accesses... There are some tricks to slim down the w2000 installation to save memory and reduce disk accesses for swapping ram contents ? Please, reply to gpavan@telnetwork.it

64 megs is the minimum for Windows 2000. I do have one machine, a P 200 with 64 megs and it runs pretty well. You might try logging on as administrator........that frees up a lot of security checks etc. That windows does when other people log in. Since Administrator has full access rights to everything those checks are not needed.

Your best bet is to add more memory. W2K uses about 3 times the memory, but it is also capable of running faster, if you have the right amount of memory. I'm using 96 MB minimum--and W2K is using about 70 MB. I've found that 128 MB is the best minimum and I don't notice a performance increase going from 128 to 256.
Summary: I put win2k pro on a P133 with 64mb of ram on a machine for my sister-in-law and it's been running fine since the end of July. Don't know how the server edition would act though....
Summary: Ok, everything mentioned so far has checked out. All the ram is 100mhz, there are no bad sticks, same system win98se runs 512ram fine. Everything on the mobo seems fine, all the right switches etc. I ...
