In the VPN properties, open the TCP/IP advanced properties and make sure you are not using the default gateway of the remote network (un-check the box). then try pinging the IP address of the server. If all works, you can map your drives and go

I unchecked the box of using the gateway of the remote network. I have another condition I should have mentioned also. I have a linksys router that is acting as a firewall but I have had this server that I am trying to connect with in the dmz zone where it should be accessable. its ip address on the network is 192.168.1.2 and the wan address coming into the linksys router is 24.28.189.185 and I can not ping either while being shown as connected in routing and remote access. when I do a ipconfig I also show a ppp adapter RAS Server dialin interface with the address of 192.168.1.4 on the server which is also the ppp ip adapter for the remote system I am trying to connect with and it shows no gateway. I am also using netzero on that remote that has its ppp address of 63.156.216.10 and the gateway is the same address for that remote. Thanks for responding I hope u have time to follow up I appreciate the help
