I have a private Domain Windows 2000 Server with a VPN, DNS and WINS server.
If I create a client that uses the remote gateway and specify the WINS in the client connection, it will browse the remote computers by NetBIOS/UNC names. This works if I have a dhcp server on a gateway router for NAT or static address that the primary DNS is the gateway router.
If the client computer is on our other campus' private domain where the workstations have static addresses and the primary DNS as the local DNS, the remote NetBios/UNC names don't resolve. If I change the primary DNS to the gateway router for that same client, it will resolve the remote addresses.
Addition info:
- Static VPN IP pool is of same network number as VPN server's local network
- I have different IP networks specified on both local nets to prevent IP conflicts in resolving namesI need a way user friendly way that employees can access servers without typing in IP addresses.

You may need to adjust the VPN TCP/IP settings.
1.) Make sure your DNS on the VNP DHCP scope is set with the DNS for the DNS server.
2.) On the VPN conection try making some changes to the TCP/IP.
DNS tab. put a check in "use this connection's DNS sufix in DNS registration"
