got the above virus on the new PC i was setting up for Email and the internet. I have win2000 on it, and not sure how it got on it. It must have been on one of the emails when it was win98 and I upgraded to win 2000. From that upgrade I never could get it on the internet, and things got progressivly worse. Now I cannot even start it up. Can you send me instructions how to copy the file back into my windows 2000 and how to delete the virus file.
I have had nortons system 2003 installed all the way from win98 to win2000 so I do not know how it got infected, and of course I do not remember opening any attachments, but I guess it comes in from others who have you on their Address book, so I may have been fooled that way. I get the Error: The following file is missing or corrupt; <windows 2000 root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe Please re-install a copy of the above file.

This might help. Presume that your CD drive is E. Change the booting sequence and boot from your Windows CD. Once in the Recovery Console at the C:\Windows> prompt, type the following: COPY E:\I386\NTOSKRNL.exe C: Then press enter. This should copy the file from the CD to the root of the C: drive. Take out the CD ROM and type exit. Change the booting sequence back to normal and reboot. If you are unsure of how to change the booting sequence please repost or send me an email. Finally, if this works, then use HijackThis to get a report and post it in the Security and Virus forum where you should get good advice re getting rid of any virus/spyware. Good luck.
