A friend of mine has a problem w/ a Worm and two trojans that he cannot get rid of through his NAV. The names of the files are: W32.HLLW.Gaobott.AA (located in his Winnt/system32/services.exe), "Trojan Horse" (no name)(located in winnt\hm\abc.bat and winnt\hm\ntdll.bat) and finally, "IRC Trojan" (located in winnt\hm\adobes.exe)

He logs on his home puter as the admin and when he FIRST logs on, the system recognizes both of his hard drives (Primary/Secondary) but right after that, he gets a "Master Hard Drive Failed". Then, it boots up to the "master" hard drive.

He is not able to see any of his partitions on his slave hard drive, and SOME of the partitions on his master is also not showing up.

Sooo..my questions are:

1. Is there any other way to get rid of those malwares besides reinstalling his OS?

2. Is there anyway to fix the issue w/ the partitions without losing everything? Is it possible to(and/or should we) go in and try to make the slave the master?

3. How would any of you SME's (subject matter experts) approach any of these issues initially?

Thank you,

Jade

Run HijackThis and post your result on the Security and Virus forum NOT on this forum. If you do not get any satisfactory response, then post it on the web site where you obtained HijackThis. Either way you will certainly get some good advice to solve the problem. HijackThis can be located using Google.
