Hello all,
I have the following problem. My windows booted every time i started a graphical program. but norton antivirus found a worm (W32.valla) en removed it. the effect was not big however. so i formatted my disk and reinstalled windows. But it still booted, but not only when in an application, but alo when i tried to intall norton etc. i am connected to internet through a ADSL modem (lan), and after a while the computer connects, but IE and norton upate are unable to find my connection (they did in the first session after install). so i formatted again and reinstalled windows again. but every time, after i connect to internet i get the same errors (it boots randomly and the system is very slow). i reinstalled windows over 5 times (tried both drives - i have c and d) now and tried to intall a firewall. that had an effect - i could intall norton without booting, but when i was updating definitions it booted again. i am alo unable to download a service pack - it crashes just before the end of intallation. what can i do? please help me! is there some kind of a worm that can survive format?
I am planning to try and install win XP instead of 2000. will that help?

When you say that you've formatted your drive are you saying you formatted both (C: and D:) drives at the same time or did you format one and use the other to store your backups. If this is the case maybe try storing your information on another component like a zip disk or over the network (temporarily) and then re-format both drives at the same time and re-install Windows on your drive of choice. It's also possible that the virus is connected to a file within the backup files that Norton isn't picking up. Good luck.
