Every time I try to install a new program, I get a dialog box that says:
SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers. VDD. Virtual Device Driver format in Registry is invalid. Chose "close" to terminate the application.I am then given a choice of "Close" or "Ignore." If I select "Close" that's that, but if I select "Ignore," it installs the progams and everything works fine.
I checked my Registry and I don't have a Virtual Device Drivers key listed under the Control tab in the above key.
My questions are: Why don't I have one and how can I add one and/or what would I add to make this error message go away?
I have listed my computer below. All of the programs that currently run in the taskbar were running long before this problem popped up. This is a recent problem and I'm wondering if maybe it could be connected to Service Pack 2. I can't remember exactly when the problem began, though.
Thank you.
Windows2000 Professional with SP2
Single User home PC computer
Runing Norton's AV 2002
Zone Alarm Pro 3 Firewall
DSL Internet Connection
Memokit

Microsoft (Q254914) says to run Regedit, go to the key and create a new value from the edit menu. Enter VDD and a string will appear.
Personally, I have never tried this. On my PCs, that value is related to Norton AV so you might try dumping it and reinstalling.
