I was doing a net search and came across an old message that described a similar problem to what I am having:

http://www.computing.net/windows2000/wwwboard/forum/61855.html

My laptop which had XP and "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" died on me and now I'm using my desktop which has Windows2000 (not sure if it's home or pro version).

I had something called "Quick Time Viewer" on my desktop, but before I can view my PNG file I have to click "later" and then enlarge the window to see my image.

I followed the instructions in the above linked thread but when I try to open a PNG with the indicated "Imaging" program I get the following error message:

"The Document's Format is Invalid or Not Supported"

It seems that the "imaging" program is for my "HP PSC 2210 all-in-one printer".

I also tried downloading the "Irfan Viewer" that was suggested, but while the program seems to work very well to view my PNG files, the icon it uses to show file association is huge and very bold and jumps off the page to attack my eyeballs, LOL. I work with a program that uses very many PNG files, and I save my graphics in PNG format, so I have hundreds of PNG files. The Irfan Viewer icons are so large and bold and over powering that it's hard to see any other files.

Is there a way to use the Irfan Viewer program, but not have that distracting red icon indicating PNG files?

What,you don't like the red "Irfanguy"? ; )

Under Properties -> Extensions -> Miscellaneous you'll find a variety of icon options

Thanks :)

No, sorry to say I don't like the little red icon guy. I like my icons to be more subtle and not so bright, lol

I'll reinstall Irfanview and see what the other icons look like. I managed to find QuickTime 7, which is a newer version of the QT I had before, but I don't like having to make extra clicks and then resize a window to view my image.

Thanks again for your help :)

Thank you :) I settled on the polar bear icon. It's much easier to look at.

I'm glad that helped - there are so many options with that little program - I still have to hunt to find some of them
