I am trying to figure out what video cards my computer supports. I like games, and just got RTC3 which is too much for my current memeory card (GeForce2MX/MX400). The main system is VIA Technologies Model P4X266-8233. This computer was build for me by a friend about 3 years ago.

How can I find out what my computer will support?

Also, and recommendations on video cards would be great. I really don't want to spend a lot on a card, but I would like to play rtc3. I also want to play around with home video editing (not sure if that makes a difference).

Thank you!

What video cards supported by your PC system really depends on your PC's motherboard.

The latest is PCI Express video cards, but you will need the motherboard that supports PCI Express.

GeForce2MX is a video card with AGP interface. AGP is the de facto interface before the arrival of PCI Express.

Nvidia and ATI video cards are the recommended and the standard nowadays. Both have pros and cons. I personally prefer Nvidia as I am using motherbord with Nvidia SLI. But, ATI is a very popular choice by extreme gamers.

Home video editing .... this one depends on the media that u use in recording your home video.

If the media is DVD-RW, then install DVD drive and you are game. IF the media is a huge SD/MMC-size card, then just buy the interface for this card to your PC and you are game. If the media is tapes - you gotta buy a video capture card.

Once that is covered, then use the video editing software like pinnacle to edit your video.

May The Force Be With You.

The problem lies with the VIA cpu being not compatible with newer games that must use DirectX 9 to work.VIA based computers are good office machines but poor game computers. You may try to stick with games that use DirectX 8.1 but the games are also older ones.Your video card is a good basic type one.It would work on an Intel or AMD cpu.Good luck.
