I am trying to use reg.exe in the recovery console to no avail. I have created a small batch file to do a registry query

===showsoft.bat======
REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE
======================

win2k support tools are installed and reg.exe works fine from a command prompt.

When in the recovery console, I try to issue this command:

BATCH showsoft.bat

and the system responds with the unrecognized command error message. I have put reg.exe in the current folder (the current directory of the batch file.

Can someone please, please help me with this?

If I understand you correctly the command wouldn't be: BATCH showsoft.bat
It would be:
showsoft.bat
That's it

Thanks.
I am trying to run a command within the recovery console. It has a subset of the commands available at the command prompt. So from what I understand you have to use the recovery console's command "BATCH" to execute a text file that consists, regardless of the extension of the file being ran (I just chose ".bat" for personal identification.)

I am trying to do this only to solve the problem of how to add an entire hive to the registry -- overwriting and adding any previous entries.

Some of the system files of the computer on which I have working have become corrupted and the files in the rapair directory are four years old. I am just trying to avoid a total reinstalation or know how truly stable it is now.
