Hi everyone, I hope some clever soul out there might be able to push me in the right direction with this query...I have upgraded my NT 4.0 OS to Win 2000 Pro SP4. My original hardware included 2 USB ports on the Asus A7V MB and two further PCI USB ports. Obviously good old NT didn't support USB and so I never had a chance to try it out...however now I have 2000 I jumped at the chance of using the USB. I have 'enabled' the USB legacy in the system bios and indeed the 'plug n play'. I've tried card readers and cameras etc but nothing is ever 'found'. Then I noticed that in the 'device manager' there is no mention of USB or controllers...should there be? I'm I missing something? Is it because I've upgraded from a non USB OS?...let me know your thoughts guys...cause I'm just plain out of ideas...oh I have also tried swapping the usb cable from the PCI USBs to another outlet on the MB and still no joy. Anyway please help if you can, I'd be very grateful for any suggestions. Best Regards, Richard.

Hi Richard,
Upgrade from NT is probably not the prob..
Yes, the device mgr should be seeing the mobo USB.
The PCI USB may need a driver. Did you get one withe the USB card? If the mobo USB is dead, this may be your only way out.
M2

Thanks M2,
I'm not sure about the PCI USB driver, I'll get inside and see if I can find the manufacturer etc...There's no sign of a driver on the machine at present. As a last resort I could buy a new card to test with new drivers...
it just concerns me that the mobo USB is not showing, and that in turn the other USB ports maybe dead...is there a simple way to test them?
I'll let you know if I get any results,
Thanks again, Richard

Hi M2,
that didn't take long!...looks like the PCI was causing a problem. I've taken off the PCI USB to check it out, while doing so I just thought I'd try the mobo USB again and it works!
Thanks so much for your reply...it may not have been the actual solution...although loading the driver may sort it...but without your prompt to take a look at the PCI, I wouldn't have got to the solution!!! :o)
Many Thanks
Richard
