Ok I installed Windows 2000 and I have an USB mouse. But sometimes falls the mouse out. It happens not so many times but it is annoying. It's an optical mouse from logitech.

When the mouse falls out, I tried to start my webcam that has also an USB connection and that wouldn't work. So I think it's the USB. Before I reinstalled win2000 I couldn't use any USB devices because the installation of a USB device failed at the end.

Run Windows Update and make sure you have the latest service packs and drivers installed. Check the IRQ settings in device manager. If this fails it could be a fault with the motherboard which you would need to get checked out.

Regards
Alex.
