I bought a courier USB 2.00 256 MB flash drive. It does not appear when I installed it on one of my computers even though it is supposed to be plug and play. I tried the drive in other computers and it works and I have tried it on both the front and back usb slots. An icon appears to "unplug or eject device" but it is not listed under the drives in "my computer". I have tried to update the driver device choosing windows update but it fails to do so giving the error message "the installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance". I don't know what else to do so I would greatly appreciate any help

Make sure USB is enabled in bios, second check device manager to make sure your usb ports are showing under the root hub and roothub in device manager tells your your usb ports and how many you have.

Also note sometimes these things have problems getting a drive letter if you have multiple hard drives or cdroms. Change the drive letter of the D: to something else and try again.

Thanks for the feedback. I have changed the letter for the cd rom and I have checked the USB ports. However I still cannot see the memory stick in my computer and the attempted driver installation still fails
