Hi all,

I have an ASUS P4B-533E with 2.4 GHZ CPU installed on a ICute casing (model 627SL) 350 power supply. Running Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 with 256 Mb of ram.

There are 4 USB ports attached on the motherboard and 2 USB ports on the front of the casing.

I tried connecting my external 2.5" USB 2.0 drive on the front panel but all I hear is a 'click..click....click..' sound coming out from the external drive. The LED on the external harddisk lights up
There is no problem when using the on-board USB 2.0 ports. It seems like there is not enough 'power' to power up the harddisk.

Have tried reloading to the latest USB drivers but to no avail.
I have also set the USB 2.0 HS Reference Voltage on the BIOS from 'Medium'(default) to 'High' but it did not work.

Appreciate all your help.

Cheers

Since there are USB ports in front of your chasing, I guess they are not coming directly from the motherboard, but from a cable that connects the ports to it. Perhaps this cable is not well plugged. Have you tried opening your computer case and checking that cable?

Hi,

I have checked the cable. It is firmly in place. I have also put in the original cable that came with the motherboard that enables me to have a total of 6 USB. (2 external and 4 on the motherboard).

But it is still the same....'Click..click..click....'

I will check with the shop that I bought the board from and see if they can solve the problem....

Thanks for your advise

I guess you can only do that at this point. Good luck!
