Well, unfortunately, laptops by nature are hard to upgrade. And even if you can, the price isn't usually worth it. Normally, you can get a better laptop for less than you would pay trying to upgrade your existing one...and especially if it's a Pentium II. And a Sony VAIO at that. Nothing against the big "S", but those VAIOS are nightmares to work on, all proprietary stuff, and Sony doesn't even really do part numbers that well. I would seriously think about investing in another laptop - you can pick up a Pentium IIIM (fairly decent) for pretty cheap these days, if you look around. Expect a price range of about 140-170$. *IF you do want to make your existing laptop run faster, there are some options, but they're rather limited, as they're mostly all software options. For example, turn off your menu bar effects and all possible visual effects in Windows. Turn off your Sounds. Defragment your hard drive on a regular basis (especially with 98)...and just try to run a good spyware cleaner and anti-virus every so often, maybe even a registry cleaner. Just don't have a bunch of stuff in the background, all you really need crouching in that system tray is like...a lightweight Anti-Virus (I suggest AVG, if they have 98 support - just be sure it's not Norton or McAffee, if you want to conserve resources), and maybe a speaker icon, a couple of your favorite messaging apps. ;-)*

I hope this will help you. n_n

Just to confirm AVG free is OK on W98 (doesn't even stipulate W98SE). See here:

Your problem is lack of RAM. Add another 128MB:
