Comment:
When I download some files under Windows 2000 it puts an icon on my Desktop cluttering it up. How do I prevent this from happening? And how do I delete the unwanted icons without deleting the acutal file?
Stop downloading files or stop downloading files to your desktop.
You could, for example, create a folder within My Documents and name it "DownloadedStuff".
The next time you download something browse to this folder and save the download there. The next time you download something it should automatically want to download to that folder.
In addition to the above, all you need to do is cut & paste the file (icon) to whereever you wish to store it. I prefer to DL to the desktop myself, but then I move the file to another location, like drag to disc.
