Hi I have an older computer 1996-97. The system BIOS only recognizes 8GB of my 15GB hard drive. I configured the 8GB as c: (6GB) & D:(2GB). When I install Windows 2000 though, I see the balance of the space as an unpartitioned block. If I partition it and format it in W2K, will this make the system unstable ? (Note: when I used FDISK, I did not see this space)

Use Partition Magic 6.01 to resize drive to it's full capacity.

It could be you need a software solution to allow your OS to use more than the first 8.4 gigs. The software should of come with your drive. I know WD and Maxtor include a program for compensating for older Bios not be able to use more than 8.4 gigs. If you Motherboard does support drives larger than 8.4 you may need to set your bios for Auto detect. I would also suggest you not use NTFS....I would use Fat32 as your file system.
