I have an app that uploads data to a web site. It was working fine with ZoneAlarms, if I allowed Port 80 activity. I uninstalled ZoneAlarms and installed the free Comcast McAfee visus/firewall software but couldn't get the uplodas to work, so I uninstalled the McAfee software.

I still can't upload. Using various port scanning web sites, I find all of my ports are "stealthed" - in fact, the Symantec security test site rates my PC as fully firewall protected.

I have no firewall running that I know of - line-by-line through running processes shows no firewall app.

Did some Windows Update from MS start blocking ports?

Thanks for the help.

not something I've come across personally but a trawl on the www for

W2K ports blocked

does bring up a few ideas... viz:

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Ope...

(uses netstat command to display ports info/)

amd other useful info too in sma reference.

http://homepages.wmich.edu/~mchugha...

discusses a less well known W2K item that "tweaks" ports...

Also is your router (if you're using one) blocking any/all ports?

also (scroll down to Access section at:

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Ope...

It too may be of value???

Also from within:

http://www.psychostats.com/docs/ps2...

"...to unblock port 80 manually.

Go to the Windows Firewall control panel. Here you can turn the firewall off if you would like, or if you want to keep it on then do the following. Go to the Advanced tab, select your connection in the top box, usually Local Area Connection, and press the settings button. Then check the Web Server (HTTP) checkbox. A box will pop up with your computers hostname in it, this is to allow the HTTP connection to your computer. Just press OK to close that and then press OK on the settings dialog. Close the rest of the windows out and now your web page should be accessible from outside localhost...."

As I say, "not sumat" I've had to deal with thus far... but interesting dilemma nonetheless; let me (us) know how you make out and fix it...
