Here’s this scoop. I just replaced an old mother board and took the CPU out and placed it in a “New” Gigabyte MB GA-6VTVE-A. This problem was not present with the older board. At any rate I reinstalled Win98 first then Win2000.

When I was going to try and install various drivers for the 2000 system I couldn’t help but notice the machine going into standby mode then I would be forced to re-enter the password to get back to the desk top. So I went into the control panel and made sure hibernate was not checked and password on resume was not required. It wasn’t, so I rebooted into the BIOS and uncheck and verified that I had unchecked two features that were disabled earlier; video power down mode and hard disk power down mode. Both were disabled. I also went poking around the BIOS and could not find any thing else that would have caused this.

I then ran the machine in Win 98, with no standby mode problem which leads me to believe that the problem is in the 2000 software environment. So the skinny of it is, I have no idea why it is going into sleep mode at unpredictable times.

There is one error in the Event Viewer; “The system sleep operation failed” Source NV and that only happened once. I do have an Nvidia video card and I’m trying to find out if this is the problem but so far nothing. It’s an EVGA g-force2 MX 2000 PCI card.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Also add this to the above report. This popped up:

"Removable storage manager refused request to hibernate or suspend system.

One or more applications have active connections open to this service. close all applications that are using this service including the MMC Snap in before attempting to hibernate or suspend system."

I don't want the machine to hibernate! LOLs. Any way...that seems to be more of the picture thanks!
