Hi,

Before a complete wipe today my system was:
Windows 2000 - 10gig
Windows ME - 15gig

Same drive different partitions using PowerQuest BootMagic.

Now if I try and change the active partition to FAT32 (WIndows ME) the system says "Cannot write master boot record" and hangs. BootMagic no longer works.

Any ideas on the problem and/or solution?

You don't need to use boot magic anyway. Put in your win2k disk at boot and from the recovery console type fixmbr and let win2k be your boot manager. Also try fixboot.

Do you have virus protection enabled in your bios? You should disable this if you want to change your MBR. Also temporary disable your virusprotection as it might not let you do this.
