I recently got a file loaded with trojans. After my virus scan removed the files I was unable to execute any .exe's. I've been browsing on here and other sites for a while and a lot of people have this problem but I don't see any solution. Someone said it was a registry problem and gave this link here:
http://home.earthlink.net/~rmbox/Reticulated/Toys.html
but that program only works for win95/98. Is there a 2k tool that does the same?
I don't have the pretty park virus or W32.Sircam. I don't have a permissions error. And yes, I am fully updated (as if I could run an update anyway considering I can't run any .exe's). My instinct tells me it's the registry, but I can't find any info on how to fix it. I want to get a solution fast before my computer crashes on me and I have to restart. Can anybody help?

Hello,
Just look on www.mcafee.com and search for the virus you found. There stands the solution for your problem.
Good Luck

That was the first thing I tried.
Eh heh heh...*looks embarrassed* funny story, I rename regedit.exe to regedit.com and browse my registry. Everything's fine. I try to run a .exe and boom! it works for no reason whatsoever.
You know computers are a lot like women...eh, I'll let your own mind finish that one. It's too late to be witty.

Hi buddy!
I think I know the fix to your problem. It happened to me when I got to manually fix a user´s computer that catched the Sircam virus. Windows decides how to load an exe file by reading a specific key inside the registry, which is HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\commandInside it, there should be only one entry (default), type REG_SZ (alphanumeric type) which contains the following string: "%1" %*
Enter into regedit, go to that key and look at that entry. Whether it is modified or it doesn´t exist at all, modify/create the key with that value and it should work. Remember: don´t miss any quote characters!!!.
Tell me if this is what you needed.
Andrés
