hi all,
i' havin' a 40 gb hdd with 4 partition each with 10gb. my vendor installed winXPpro on the system. but i removed the winxp partition and reinstalled win2k pro after formatting the drive. my borther had created a folder on other drive (E:) when xp was installed using his login. i did not give him admin rights as he is new to the computers at that time. now again i've created a login name for him in win2k pro system. Now the problem is he is not able to move any file from the folder in E: within the subfolder under that folder. but he can do COPY & PASTE but not MOVE file (or CUT & PASTE). it says, "disk is write protected. acess denied. you have no permission" and srt of message. f time being what i've done is that i have givenmy brother full right to the drive E:. anybody can let me know why it happpens..? help would be greately apreciated.

thanks in advance.

Windows 2000 is easy after you get the hang of it. Right click the folder you want to allow him access to and go to properties. On the security tab make sure that your brother is allowed access. You might want to check full rights for him. Also check the folder that he is copying the files to. If he has admin rights he can probably go through the steps listed above.

tim,

thank you very much for taking time in reviewing my question and answering it. yes, i've already done the step you've mentioned (right-click on the folder > go to seurity tab...etc) the thing is that my brother's name is not listed there. instead 'everyone','user','system','creator owner' are listed. now it is working fine after i gave him the admin right to the E drive. but thing is that i dont want to give him the admin right to the E drive. so any other suggestions...?

thank you once again tim...:)
