I cannot delete these folders:

C:\program files\microsoft frontpage\version3.0\bin

C:\program files\microsoft frontpage\version3.0

C:\program files\microsoft frontpage

Why can't I delete them?
It says file is in use, sharing violation... even though i rebooted and no processes should be using them...

I deleted it in safe mode, but these files got created again once i booted normally!

I have no clue why this is happening!

Note: I deleted C:\program files\frontpage express with no difficulty

I dont even know why I have these folders anyways... \frontpage express\ folder contains a few files and \microsoft frontpage\ contains NOTHING except those folders

HELP!

Are you uninstalling Front Page? If not, and you intend to use it, you'll need those files. If you don't want to have Front Page anymore, then just deleting the files won't work...as you have seen. You need to run through the Add/Remove Programs and uninstall properly. Then, if those files still remain, you should (after a reboot) be able to delete them with no problems.

However, if you've just started arbitrarily deleting files, without running a proper uninstall, then not only is your Program Files folder messed up, your Registry is as well. It still contains all the references to those files, even though some of them don't exist. My guess is, therein lies your problem.

No, as I said I don't have the program Microsoft Frontpage. That program may have been installed previously, but I don't have it anymore.

What I am left with are those folders:

C:\program files\microsoft frontpage\version3.0\bin

C:\program files\microsoft frontpage\version3.0

C:\program files\microsoft frontpage

Those folders above contain NOTHING

C:\program files\frontpage express
contained some .DLL and some other useless files probably that the UNINSTALLER didn't take out.

So, I deleted C:\program files\frontpage express, BUT i am UNABLE to delete these folders:

C:\program files\microsoft frontpage\version3.0\bin

C:\program files\microsoft frontpage\version3.0

C:\program files\microsoft frontpage

So again my question is why can't I delete them? It keeps saying file in use/sharing violation...

I found some more info on this that might solve it...

Hi,

I suspect that the folders are to do with an Office install as Frontpage comes with Office.

I have this folder too. the end folder has files related to server/frontpage extentions. Needed if you test websites on your machine prior to upload.

All the frontpage files are of course located in the Office directory. Why split them apart? Ask Mictosoft - there may be a good answer.

The way round would be to uninstall Frontpage, properly of course - not deleting the folders etc. . .

Hope that helps,

Good Luck. . .

:o)

do a search for these files: ~*.* and delete them. microsoft applications uses that as a temp shortcut and as long as the ~ file is there the computer thinks the file is in use. if that doesn't work live with it - they don't take up much space and won't hurt anything. if you really want to get rid of them you will probably have to edit the registry and delete all references to front page. unless you have dealt with the registry before don't do that - screwing up the registry is catastrophic.
