Subject: Unable to copy or move files in Win2Kpro
Comment:

I am no longer able to copy or move files using Explorer or My Computer. When I try and drag + drop, there is no error message, but also no transfer or copy. No effect using Edit...Cut, Copy, Move to Folder or Copy to Folder. I am able to copy files using a DOS window, but not across a network like I need to. This happened last week although I did not load any new programs.

I do not think this is specifically a Win2Kpro issue as I saw a similar posting for Win98, but that fix didn't work for me. I have tried uninstalling and reloading Service Pack 2 to no effect.

My System: Win2K Pro, Service Pack 2, 1.2G AMD Athelon chip, 786 Meg RAM. Stable for previous 6 months before having this problem last week.

It sounds like your administrative privileges have been changed somehow.

I wish it were as easy as the administrator priveleges. I have triple checked those. I can create folders, delete folders and files, and open and modify files. I appear to have full priveleges except for copying or transfering files between folders using Explorer or My Computer. I have reloaded Explorer, and others on the network have been able to transfer/copy files on my hard drive using my explorer.exe. The last thing I am reluctant to try is to repair and/or reinstall Windows 2000.

I had this exact problem, but I could go to a dos box and copy files from it.
The solution that worked for me, (after repairing/beating my head against a wall) was to upgrade Internet Explorer (I think I went from 5.0 to 5.5). Don't know why this worked, but it did.
