When I enable UDMA in CMOS setup and try to boot to Windows 2000, it crashes during "starting windows screen".
Is there something that i must do first before enabling UDMA in the BIOS? - Win2k is already setup to use UDMA if available but is obviously running in PIO
when UDMA is enabled, the bios table says that the hdd is running on UDMA-5
My hard drive supports UltraATA/66/100/133 but im assuming that my motherboard doesnt because it is not missing the reserve pin for the use of and 80-conductor ATA cable.
Am I crashing because I can't use UDMA without ATA?
Could it be that im using a 40 conductor ide cable?
thanks.

UDMA will work on a 40-connector cable, but not above UDMA-33. Windows should happily fall back to this mode with your HD. It's more likely, if you're getting PIO mode, that you need to update your mobo drivers for IDE. You might also be better off using AUTO in the BIOS for HD detection.
