Comment:

I installed a Windows 2000 Pro image onto an IBM x30 laptop. The image was originally created with the wireless card disabled (IBM High Rate Wireless LAN MiniPCI Combo Card-SecuRemote Miniport).

When I try to enable it through Computer Management window, it suddenly lists itself as a hidden device and it does not operate although seemingly it is detected.

This problem has occurred on two machines thus far as observed. Strangely, the same image was downloaded onto another similar machine where the wireless card was enabled and is functioning.

I have tried going to the IBM web site and downloading the driver but to no avail.

What else should I check to make sure it's not incorrect settings or a driver or hardware issue?

If the machine has IfRed port, try disabling it in the BIOS.

I've checked the BIOS for the Infrared port and it's already disabled.

I'm starting to think it's something associated with the fact that I'm using a ghost image and some machines do not 100% work with the settings... ?

Any chance you could just delete the card from the Device Mngr. and reinstall it?

I know it's not the same thing, but I've had Office 2000 problems when Ghosted to a new drive.

I was told that there was a possibility that because the info resided on a different sector that it might not work.

This seemed possible at first blush, but then I thought of when you defrag a disk it moves the stuff unless it's labled unmovable.

Obviously, I'm grasping at straws here.
