Trouble sharing files using a hub!
I am trying to network 2 computers via a hub. Currently I have a cable modem linked to the hub and both computers linked to the hub as well. Each computer has its own NIC card and has no trouble accessing the Internet via the hub. I have set file share properties so that each computer can see a shared version of itself using either network neighborhood or my network places (depending on OS). My problem is that neither computer can see the other in network neighborhood even though I have successfully shared files on each computer.

Computer1 is running windows 95
NIC: Kingston PRI 10x100
Boot requires no login or password
Start, Settings, Control Panel, Network reveals
Client for Microsoft Networks is installed
File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks is installed
TCP/IP Properties:
* disable DNS
* disable WINS resolution
computer name: Gore
workgroup: ONE
* share level access control

Computer2 is running windows 2000
NIC: SMC EZ 10x100
Boot requires login of administrator and a password
Start, Settings, Network & Dialup Connections, Local Area Connection, Properties reveals
Client for Microsoft Networks is installed
File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks is installed
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties:
* obtain an IP address automatically
* obtain an DNS server address automatically
IP Settings:
IP address – DHCP Enabled
Default Gateways – none
DNS: blank
WINS: blank
* Enable LMHOSTS lookup
* Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP
Options:
IP security * do not use IPSEC
TCP/IP filtering * permit all

What am I missing?

On the Win2k Machine right click "my Computer" go to Properties, click on Network idenifications, click on properties to "join a Domain" make sure it says "ONE" in the workgroup. see if that helps.

Good Luck

ALSO, for god's sake make sure you disable netbeui over tcp/ip!
It may help to have netbeui installed on both (if not already installed) to allow local comms between the 2 pc's..

Good luck..

:o)

do you realize your sending your broadcast packets over your entire internet providers network?? BAD IDEA! Get a cable/dsl router and lose the HUB and your problems will be solved.

and make sure they are both in the same workgroup as previously stated... :-D
