I have a laptop which I use both at home and at my office. In both locations we have a router configured to act as the DHCP server.
Sometimes when I move the laptop between office or home (either way), I can't get internet or network access. When I check the IP address, I find that it still has the IP address which was assigned at the last logon (before being moved). If I release and renew the IP address it works OK.
Is there some way to make this happen automatically, some setting to change, etc.

What what I remember, DHCP assigns an IP for a 23 hour and 59 minute period. If you move the laptop within that time period, it'll retain the IP that was last assigned.
Far as I know, release and renew is the only option. Someone else may have a better idea.

Best way is to just write a batch file that just releases and then renews. It's very simple to write in the Dos editor. Just type:
ipconfig/release
ipconfig/renew
And save it as a .bat file and set it on the desktop and click after you boot up.
