I have win98 on C: as primary active. Win 2k on G: and Linux mandrake on an Ext2 partition in C:
My bootmenu on loading is windows 2k and win98. How can I alter my Boot.ini to how the linux option in the bot menu.
My boot.ini is
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(7)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(7)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
C:\="Microsoft Windows98"

Thanx.

Impossible!
You have to use the linux lilo bootmanager or other third-party bootmanager to accomplish that.

Did you install Linux last? Do you know how to configure lilo to control your booting.
It's very effective.

I did install Linux last. LILO did not recognise the win2k installation. Might be because of the presence of System commander. Even after uninstalling Sys com and configuring LILO it still did not boot win2k.
After a reinstallation win2k boots along with win98. Bootmagic allows to boot into Linux.
I have read elsewhere that copying bootsector.lnx into the C: root folder and adding a line to boot.ini would allow triple boot thru win2k boot manager. Just don't know how to do it!!(newbie)

You have a similar setup to me....I use bootpart (available at http://www.winimage.com/bootpart.htm).
Find the nearest match to your setup in the instructions and then do it. Then add Linux (as instructed). My boot.ini looks like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=c:\bootsect.w98
[operating systems]
c:\bootsect.622="MS-Dos 6.22" /win95dos
c:\bootsect.w98="Windows 98" /win95
C:\DOS\BOOTPART\bootlinx.bin="Linux"
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Windows NT Server 4"
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Windows NT Server 4 [VGA mode]" /basevideo /sos
C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Windows 2000 Recovery Console" /cmdcons
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(10)\WINNT="Windows 2000 Advanced Server" /fastdetect

So it defaults to Win98, and can also go into real DOS (6.22) or Linux. Once configured it works a treat. If you need more help please mail me.

I have the same setup, Win 98, 2K, and Linux and have tried Sys Commander& Boot Magic both with no luck. Lilo won't work because of the MBR.It really pisses you off when software so expensive doesn't work. The only way I can get Linux to boot on my boxes is to use a boot disk, plain and simple. By the way, I've got System Commander for sale cheap.

I've figured out a way. Install bootmagic. It recognises Win98 and linux. If you choose win98 it gives u the option of win2k and win98 (the win2k boot manager). Boot magic won't recognise win2k because it is on a logical partition. I tried to change it to a primary one thru partition magic, but the option to convert is greyed out. Any thoughts fellas?
