i have installed win 2k on my computor and wanted to transfer the hard disk over to my girlfriends but when i turn it on her comp says there is no operation system. so as just to check i put it back into my comp and it works fine. why is this can any body help me out here. i want to be able to put it into my girlfriends computor with win 2k as the operating system, am i going to have to re install win 2k whilst it is in her comp

Unless your girlfriends PC is identical to yours in every way....every piece of hardware...it's not going to work without running a repair on the 2000 installation. Doing this on hers will create the same problem on yours when you try to put the hard drive back in your machine.
Your best bet is invest in another hard drive and put it in hers and install 2000 on it.

Strangely someone else (here) recently managed to simply tranfer a drive to another PC without problem (at least that's what he claimed).
The usual routes for transfering '9x drives across do not seem to work for W2K - they may for NT4? Colleagues where I work have usually had to re-install afresh when changing the MoBo in a PC for a given W2K installation; and moving the drive to another PC is effectively the same situation?
Various options that 'may' work are covered in post #2 at:

The situation there results from an image transfer to the drive; but the resolutions various may equally apply for you. The Repair/Upgrade routes are probably most applicable for your situation?
Failing all of the above - it's a totally new (clean) install to the drive located within that PC?
CurtR's comments the effects for you when you put the drive back in your PC are critical... The drive/installation will not work in your PC following 'the fix' to make it work in your girlfiend's. So you really have to install a fresh copy to her (own) drive to avoid copmplications for you and your drive...
